About Enel Viento

Leading the renewable energy transition for over 25 years

Our Mission & Vision

At Enel Viento SL, our mission is to lead the transition to renewable energy, paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future. Our vision is a world powered by efficient, eco-friendly energy solutions that drive positive environmental and social impact for generations to come.

Our Story

Foundation and Early Focus

Enel Viento's journey began in 2000 with a clear vision: to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy, particularly in Andalusia, Spain. Founded by Karl Khevenhüller, Johannes Trauttmansdorff, and Andreas Dangl as Luz de Viento S.L. (LDV), the initial focus was on project development fundamentals. Four years later, in 2004, Enel Viento S.L. was established as a capital corporation dedicated to the erection and financing of wind farms, while LDV continued its role in development and engineering.

Collaboration and Growth

From the start, collaboration has been key. We proudly joined the National Association of Renewable Power Producers (APPA) and were instrumental in co-founding the Andalusian Renewables Association APREAN, now known as CLEANER.

Following the departure of Andreas Dangl and Johannes Trauttmansdorff, a decisive moment in 2004 was the strategic alliance with the Spanish project development company Eolica Navarra (GRUPO ENHOL). This partnership fueled rapid growth and allowed us to develop and operate wind farms with significant installed capacity across Spain.

Starting in 2015, we partnered with FIM/Gresham House for wind farm erection in Scotland, demonstrating international expansion. Our operational philosophy centers on strong joint ventures with industry leaders such as Enhol (Spain), ImWind (Austria & Italy), and Green Elephant (India), leveraging local expertise for global impact.

Diversification and Future Vision

Today, Enel Viento is a diversified renewable energy company. We own and operate wind farms and are actively expanding into photovoltaic projects and pioneering green hydrogen initiatives. In October 2025, we partnered with the UK-based technology company Naked Energy, which developed one-of-a-kind solar thermal tubes, to advance the solar thermal industry. This technology helps industries become more autarch and reduce reliance on oil and gas.

We are committed to exploring and implementing cutting-edge technologies for a cleaner world. With more than two decades of experience, Enel Viento continues to operate and develop new projects, dedicated to building a future driven by clean and sustainable solutions for generations to come.

Market Applications

VirtuPVT and VirtuHOT are perfectly suited to a wide range of commercial and residential applications where hot water demand and available rooftop space create optimal conditions for deployment.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing facilities use hot water across multiple industrial processes—from cleaning and sterilization to component manufacturing and quality control. VirtuPVT and VirtuHOT collectors can be deployed on large industrial rooftops to supply consistent thermal energy while generating electricity to offset operational energy costs. The dual energy output significantly reduces both carbon footprint and operational expenses, making them ideal for manufacturers committed to sustainability and cost efficiency.

Hotels & Leisure Centres

Hotels, spas, and leisure centres have intensive hot water demands for guest accommodations, swimming pools, spas, and kitchen operations. VirtuPVT collectors are particularly effective in these applications, providing both the thermal energy needed for heating and hot water systems while generating electricity to power facility operations. The high energy yield per square meter maximizes the return on limited rooftop space, making these installations financially attractive while demonstrating environmental responsibility to guests and members.

Public Sector

Public sector buildings including schools, hospitals, and community centres require reliable hot water for various applications from handwashing and cleaning to specialized medical processes. VirtuPVT installations on public buildings deliver measurable carbon reductions while reducing operational costs, allowing public funds to be redirected to core services. These installations serve as visible demonstrations of environmental leadership while providing long-term energy cost savings that benefit taxpayers and service users.

Multi-family Residential Developments

Apartment buildings and residential developments benefit significantly from VirtuPVT installations, particularly in new construction where energy efficiency requirements are increasingly stringent. The collectors provide communal hot water while generating electricity that can offset common area energy consumption or be distributed to residents. For developers, VirtuPVT installations enhance property values and appeal to environmentally conscious residents while meeting renewable energy targets and building regulations.

Common Benefits Across All Applications

Superior space utilization and energy yield
Reduced operational costs and improved ROI
Significant carbon footprint reduction
Meeting renewable energy targets and regulations

Frequently Asked Questions

Both are modular. VirtuPVT has a standard absorber angle of 35°. VirtuHOT can be manufactured with different absorber angle specifications at -20°, 0°, +20°, or +35° depending on installation requirements. Both can be supplied with or without reflectors.

VirtuPVT delivers up to 4x more energy and greater carbon savings for buildings that require hot water or heat, offering a better return on investment than standard PV systems alone.

A single hybrid collector reduces installation time and costs, delivers more carbon savings than separate solar PV and solar thermal products, and provides a better overall return on investment.

Yes, it still works. Energy generation is higher in summer, but seasonal thermal storage enables benefits throughout the year.

Yes. Virtu is complementary and can support ground or air-source heat pumps, providing an alternative heat source when the sun isn't shining to improve overall performance.

A mixture of water and propylene glycol is used to prevent freezing in winter. De-ionised water can be used in locations where freezing temperatures do not occur.

Very little. It requires no more maintenance than conventional PV/thermal arrays. Performance is digitally monitored via the Clarity247 platform, and systems have an expected productive lifetime of at least 20 years.

Standard warranty is five years. Customers using an approved installer and opting for O&M will receive the maximum industry warranty of 10 years.
